[New Republic] Joseph Braude - Several Arab leaders share a desire to cut off Syria from Lebanon once and for all. They view this goal as a realistic outcome of the present war, and as such, will probably do little to block the Israeli campaign as long as this goal is being served. If Syria is allowed to step in as a broker of Hizballah quietism, neither the Saudis nor the Jordanians will be pleased. The crisis won't be over - but moderate Arab leaders' tacit approval of Israel's actions might very well be.
