(Times-UK) Deborah Haynes - Samira Ahmed Jassim, 51, has confessed that she sent 28 women to carry out suicide bombing attacks in Iraq, Maj.-Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, a Baghdad security spokesman, said. In a prison interview with the Associated Press, she said that she helped to organize the rapes of young women and then stepped in to persuade the victims to become suicide bombers as their only escape from the shame. Jassim was a member of Ansar al-Sunna, a Sunni Arab militant group. At least 36 female suicide bombers attempted or carried out attacks last year, compared with 8 in 2007, according to U.S. military data.
