(Reuters) Louis Charbonneau - The UN General Assembly's Third Committee, its human rights committee, on Tuesday accused Iran of serious human rights violations in a move sponsored by the U.S., EU, Canada and other Western countries. The resolution on Iran received 80 votes in favor - six more than a similar declaration last year - 44 against and 57 abstentions. The resolution lists such violations as torture, flogging, amputations, stoning, and "pervasive gender inequality and violence against women."
