UN: Hizballah Operations in South Lebanon Not "Compatible" with Security Council Resolutions

(Kuwait News Agency) - Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Thursday said Hizballah's military operations in South Lebanon against Israel are "disturbing," and reminded Lebanon that its asserted position that the Blue Line is not valid in the Shaba'a farms is not "compatible" with Security Council resolutions. He said the resumption of military measures, "for which Hizballah took credit, asserting its claimed prerogative to resist Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory by force, was disturbing." He recalled that the Council has recognized the Blue Line as "valid for purposes of confirming Israel's withdrawal pursuant to Resolution 425 of 1978. The Government of Lebanon should heed the Council's repeated calls for the parties to respect the Blue Line in its entirety."
