(Ministry of Foreign Affairs) - In a unanimous decision last Friday, the UN Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations recognized the Israeli Jewish organization Yad Sarah as an advisory body to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The resolution was accepted despite the fact that the committee head is from Iran and committee members include Pakistan, Sudan, China, Cuba, and Zimbabwe among its 19 members. Germany was the principal driving force behind the decision. Yad Sarah is a volunteer organization that provides short-term lending of medical equipment. Its services have expanded to include emergency alarm systems, transportation for the wheelchair bound, day rehabilitation centers, geriatric dental clinics, play centers for special needs children, and more. It gets no ongoing financial support from the government.
