(Ha'aretz) Aluf Benn and Shlomo Shamir - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, presenting plans for possible unilateral steps in the West Bank and Gaza, told a high-level American delegation Thursday that Israel had not abandoned the U.S.-backed road map and identified it as the "only political plan acceptable to Israel." U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer said serious talks with a credible Palestinian partner were preferable, but "the United States agrees with Israel that until now the Palestinians have not met that test."
