(Guardian-UK) Ian Black - The former Syrian foreign ministry spokesman, Jihad Makdissi, is on his way to the U.S. after apparently defecting, the most senior Christian official yet to abandon the Assad regime. One Western diplomat noted: "If the man charged with lying to the outside world can't stomach Assad anymore, it is a pretty damning indictment of the regime."
