(AP/New York Times) Locked in a fetid Iraqi prison nearly 40 years ago, Hussein al-Rikabi met a serious-minded young inmate who he recalls was so cunning that he once engineered a jailhouse dispute to identify informers among the prisoners. Saddam stood out among the hundreds of Baathists, communists, nationalists and others held in the prison, al-Rikabi recalled. Al-Rikabi said Saddam eventually escaped from prison, disguised as a garbage collector, with the help of some friendly guards.
