(Washington Post ) - Paul Farhi U.S. officials say Arab and Muslim nations - nominally America's "silent partners" in the war against Iraq - have kept American journalists away from their air bases, apparently out of concern that media coverage of U.S. operations there will incite internal opposition. In recent days reporters have been unable to gain direct access to U.S. forces stationed in Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Air bases in Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates have also been deemed off-limits to the media by those countries.
