But former ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk and former State Department senior Middle East negotiator Aaron Miller now concur that the all-out pursuit of a peace agreement with Syrian president Hafez Al-Assad in the months prior to Camp David probably played a pivotal and potentially fatal role in determining the summit's ultimate failure.
