Congress Pushed Out of Supervision of PA Aid

(Middle East Newsline) - The Bush administration has rejected congressional oversight of funding for Palestinian security agencies. "There were efforts by some members of Congress to delve into the process of U.S. funding for the restructuring of Palestinian security agencies," a senior congressional source said. "The administration said this was a war on terrorism issue and the members backed off." Sources estimate that the administration has invested more than $100 million in the PA security agencies, with much of the money apparently funneled directly to outgoing PA Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas and Security Affairs Minister Mohammed Dahlan.
