(Los Angeles Times) - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Thursday that Israel would act on its own if the Palestinians do not take effective steps toward peace in coming months. Sharon outlined what he called a "disengagement plan" that includes moving settlements from deep inside Palestinian-claimed areas, redeploying Israeli troops along a security line, and creating a provisional boundary with Palestinians, unless there is progress toward implementing the U.S.-backed diplomatic initiative known as the road map.
