(Ha'aretz) Amos Harel - In light of the Assad regime's recent successes in Syria, assisted by Russia and Iran, Israel understands that an Assad victory would strengthen Iran. Should the regime take over southern Syria up to Israel's border in the Golan Heights, this would create a new line of contact with Hizbullah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Yet Israel's security leaders tend to assume that it is too early to declare an Assad victory.
