(New York Times) Daniel Rapaport - Masoud Shojaei, 33, the captain of Iran's national soccer team, and Ehsan Haji Safi, 27, one of its most promising players, were banned for life from playing for their country on Thursday after they participated in a match in Greece with Panionios against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Athens, Mohammad Reza Davarzani, Iran's deputy sports minister, said Thursday.
