(Ha'aretz) Amos Harel - A fatwa issued by the Supreme Sharia Council in Gaza in mid-August, reflecting Hamas policy, prohibits individual armed operations in the name of Islam. Sharia law experts argue that the operations are not coordinated with Hamas and therefore expose them to Israeli retaliatory actions. The council ruled that a person who acts without authorization will not be accorded the status of shahid (martyr) after his death. Hence, the Hamas government will not provide economic aid for the families of those killed in such incidents.
