Occupied Elsewhere: Selective Policies on Occupations and Territorial Disputes

(Foundation for Defense of Democracies) Svante Cornell and Brenda Shaffer - Recently, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) decided goods entering the EU that are produced in Jewish settlements in the West Bank must be clearly designated as such. At the same time, however, neither the ECJ nor the EU have enacted similar policies on goods from other zones of occupation, such as Nagorno-Karabakh or Abkhazia. Other such territories include Crimea, Donbas, Northern Cyprus, Kashmir, South Ossetia, Transnistria, and Western Sahara. Policies that are selective reveal biases.
