Discovering Acts of Rescue in Budapest


(Jewish News-UK) Amelia Ireland - Last week, I joined an educational visit to Budapest with the Holocaust Educational Trust. At memorials across the city, we learned about courageous individuals who resisted Nazi persecution by rescuing Jewish victims. Italian Giorgio Perlasca is memorialized for his role in rescuing thousands of Jews by posing as the Spanish consul-general to Hungary, after Spanish officials had left. Despite his past as a former Fascist, Perlasca saved the lives of over five thousand Jews.
