(White House) At a joint press conference in Washington Tuesday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Obama noted: "We agree that unilateral actions - such as Palestinians seeking a vote on statehood at the UN General Assembly - should be avoided....We want a Jewish state of Israel alongside an independent Palestinian state. Unilateral measures are not helping at all to bring about this cause."
