This is an overview of the relevant provisions of Israeli law, the law applicable in Judea and Samaria, and where necessary, references to international law. Israeli law has four frameworks of detention: arrest for investigation, administrative detention - focused on determining criminal responsibility for past acts - and administrative detention, detention of unlawful combatants, and the holding of prisoners of war - which are all preventive in nature.
