(Wall Street Journal) Joe Lauria and Joshua Mitnick - Israel agreed to pay the UN $10.5 million in compensation for damage to UN property and for the life of a UN driver during Israel's war last winter in Gaza, according to two UN officials. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak discussed the payments by phone this week, said UN spokesman Martin Nesirky. Israel has said that the damage to UN property was a result of collateral damage, claiming Gazan militants were fighting near the properties.
