(New York Daily News) Israeli Consul General in New York Arye Merkel - * There can be no peace while Palestinian terrorists continue to kill Israelis. Since October 2000, more than 25,300 attacks have terrorized Israel. The Palestinian Authority lacks the will to suppress terrorism, and Israel has had no choice but to take unilateral action to protect its own citizens. Any country would do the same. * Israelis are eager for an end to the conflict. We are willing and ready to live alongside our Palestinian neighbors and assist them in building a future based on peace and progress. * Once the disengagement is complete, we hope to be able to return to the negotiating table to discuss the road map - the internationally-sponsored plan that may lead to the creation of a Palestinian state. * The Gaza disengagement plan represents an attempt to reinvigorate the peace process. We hope the Palestinians will seize this opportunity, build upon it, and create a new life for themselves that rejects terrorism. 2005-08-17 00:00:00Full Article
