(Der Spiegel-Germany) Volkhard Windfuhr - Egypt's Ministry of Transportation has approved the construction of a giant bridge between Egypt and Saudi Arabia spanning the Gulf of Aqaba for road and rail traffic. Plans call for the 32-km (20-mile) bridge to cross the Strait of Tiran near the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to Ras Hamid in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Parts of the bridge would be suspended.
