Security Council Deadlocks Over Condemnation of Jerusalem Bombing


(Reuters) Security Council envoys were deadlocked on Thursday in a bid to condemn Thursday's suicide bombing that killed 10 people in Jerusalem, deciding after three hours to drop the idea and say nothing. While the U.S. pressed for such a statement, Algeria argued for a statement denouncing Wednesday's Israeli raid that killed eight Palestinians in Gaza. Backing the U.S. were Britain, Germany, and Romania, while Pakistan, Brazil, and China lined up with Algeria, diplomats said. Israel's U.N. ambassador, Dan Gillerman, scheduled a news conference for Friday to discuss "the UN's lack of response to terrorism" following the suicide bombing.
