(Guardian-UK) Brian Whitaker - Salih al-Oufi, 38, a former sergeant in the Saudi security forces, has been appointed head of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula after the death of Abd al-Aziz al-Muqrin in a gun battle on Friday. Oufi was no. 5 on a list of the 26 most-wanted suspects issued by the Saudi authorities last December.
