(Ha'aretz) Aluf Benn - The EU foreign ministers will convene on Friday in Italy to consider a proposal to place the political wing of the Hamas movement on a list of terrorist organizations. Israel and the U.S. have made extensive efforts in recent days to convince the EU to change its position. Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, and Luxembourg support the designation, while Austria, Greece, and Ireland oppose the change. Prime Minister Sharon's bureau chief Dov Weisglass met Thursday in Washington with U.S. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. Israeli sources believe that the American administration fully understands the steps taken by Israel, and that there is agreement on what is required from the Palestinian side.
