(New York Times) Thomas Erdbrink - Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday dashed any expectations that the completion of the nuclear deal and the lifting of economic sanctions marked the beginning of a detente with the U.S. In a letter to President Hassan Rouhani published on his website, Khamenei warned: "The deceptions and breaches of promises by arrogant governments, in particular America...should not be neglected." At the same time, there are indications that an influential panel had disqualified thousands of reformists from running in February elections for Iran's Parliament or the Assembly of Experts. On Sunday, Hossein Marashi, a reformist leader, said that out of 3,000 reformist candidates who had registered nationwide, only 33 had been allowed to participate.2016-01-20 00:00:00Full Article
