Evan Williams, deputy chief of New Zealand's Army, became head of the Sinai Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) and its 1,150 troops from 13 countries in December. Because ISIS insurgents now range across the north of the Sinai Peninsula, the MFO's presence has been replaced by cameras, sensors and aerial surveys.
