Whoever relayed the information wanted to send a message to al-Qaeda, which lost yet another senior leader. It was also meant for Iran, which was exposed as harboring al-Masri. And it was meant for any other extremist actor in the region, that the U.S. and Israel will continue working together in the war on terror.
