(Jewish News-UK) MP Andrew Bowie - The UK's response to recent threats to our ally Israel has been too muted. Based on an extraordinary misinterpretation of international law, the International Criminal Court's determination that it has territorial jurisdiction over the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem and can therefore open a probe into war crimes was rightly condemned by some of our closest allies - the U.S., Australia, Germany and Canada. But the UK's silence over this dangerous precedent is problematic. Moreover, in December 2020, the UK voted for 11 out of 16 UN General Assembly resolutions singling out Israel, including one which only used the term "Haram al-Sharif" to describe Jerusalem's Temple Mount - effectively ignoring Judaism's fundamental connection to the site. Resolutions of this nature harm the wider peace process as Palestinian intransigence and terrorism goes unchecked. The writer is Vice-Chairman of Britain's Conservative Party. 2021-03-04 00:00:00Full Article
