Halevy - Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the president of the World Union of Muslim Scholars and in the past a candidate to head the Muslim Brotherhood, came out with a harsh attack against Shiite penetration of Sunni Islamic society. In an interview with the newspaper Al-Mitzri Al-Yom (9Sep08), he warned of a religious and cultural invasion of Shiism through the establishment of local groups and the use of networks of veteran preachers whose purpose is to convert Sunni Muslims to Shiism.
