(Reuters) The U.S. carried out multiple air strikes in Syria on Thursday against Iran-aligned groups blamed for a drone attack that killed an American contractor, wounded another, and hurt five U.S. troops at a base near Hasakah in northeast Syria, the Pentagon said. U.S. intelligence assessed that the attack drone was Iranian in origin. U.S. troops have come under attack by Iranian-backed groups 78 times since the beginning of 2021, Army Gen. Erik Kurilla told the House Armed Services Committee on Thursday.
