(Jerusalem Post) Tovah Lazaroff - Azerbaijan opened an embassy in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, the first Shia Muslim country to open an embassy in Israel. Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen noted that "Israel and Azerbaijan share the same perception of the Iranian threats." Israel was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991. Israel established diplomatic ties in 1992 and opened an embassy there in 1993.
