(New York Times) Matthew Mpoke Bigg - Airstrikes in Syria killed at least 18 people and injured dozens of others, Syria's state news media reported on Monday, blaming Israel for the attacks. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes hit an area containing a scientific research institute where work on "developing short- and medium-range precision missiles" is conducted. The U.S. government has described that institute as a center of weapons research and development, aided by Syria's ally Iran, with the work being done there including chemical, biological and potentially nuclear weapons as well as missiles used by Hizbullah.
