Hizbullah Hit by Second Wave of Explosive Device Attacks


(Wall Street Journal) Summer Said - The walkie-talkies that exploded across Lebanon on Wednesday had new batteries that had arrived in a recent shipment and had been distributed to a narrower range of Hizbullah members than the pagers. Former Israeli military officials said Israel's attack was likely aimed at forcing Hizbullah to stop its cross-border attacks that have displaced tens of thousands of Israelis and was designed to show that there is a price for its support for Hamas. "The purpose of such an operation was not to escalate, it was to reach a settlement that will allow people to go back to their houses," said Brig.-Gen. (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser, a former head of research for Israeli military intelligence. "This act is meant to convince Hizbullah to accept an arrangement that makes that possible."
