Clinton: U.S. Cannot Support PA Government with Hamas Until It Adopts Quartet Principles
(State Department) U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was asked in Rome on Thursday if the agreement between Hamas and Fatah closes the door on the prospect of peace talks continuing with Israel. Clinton responded: "We've made it very clear that we cannot support any government that consists of Hamas unless and until Hamas adopts the Quartet principles" [of recognizing Israel's right to exist, renouncing violence and respecting treaties previously signed by the Palestinians].
