Gaza's Refugee Camps Have Morphed into Suburbs
[Telegraph-UK] Tim Butcher - Gaza is a small strip of Mediterranean beachfront only 20 miles long and 6 miles deep with a population surviving on aid handouts from the international community. Gaza is a world of donkey carts and roads pockmarked with potholes, half-built apartment blocks and rubbish pretty much everywhere. Armed men are also everywhere. Driving past places like Jabalya, you are told it is a refugee camp. But there is not a single tent or standing waterpoint in sight. The refugee camps of Gaza have long since morphed into fully blown suburbs, with schools, mosques and litter-strewn alleys towered over by apartment buildings.
