Violent Clashes as Thousands Protest in Cities Across Syria
(New York Times) Hwaida Saad and Liam Stack - Thousands of protesters poured into the streets in the suburbs of Damascus, Syria, and in three of the country's five largest cities on Friday. Activists said at least 19 people were killed and dozens wounded. Security forces fired on protesters in Homs, while police and protesters fought in Deir al-Zour. Thousands demonstrated in Kiswa, south of Damascus, where demonstrators carried banners that read, "Leave!" and "The people want the fall of the regime."
