U.S. Accuses Syrian-Born Man of Spying on Anti-Assad Dissidents
(Washington Post) Del Quentin Wilber - Mohamad Anas Haitham Soueid, 47, has been accused of gathering information about people protesting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and passing it along to Syrian intelligence officials. The Syrian-born naturalized U.S. citizen sought to "undermine, silence, intimidate, and potentially harm" those protesting the Damascus regime, according to a grand jury indictment unsealed Wednesday. Soueid e-mailed about 20 audio and video recordings of anti-government protests and conversations with protesters in the U.S. to a Syrian intelligence official.
