Syrian Troops Clash with Army Defectors

(AP-Washington Post) Clashes in the town of Hass between Syrian troops and gunmen believed to be army defectors wounded at least 17 people on Monday, says Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The fighting reveals the increasingly militarized nature of an uprising against President Bashar Assad's regime.
