Hamas Leader Abandons Longtime Base in Damascus

(New York Times) Fares Akram - Khaled Meshal, the leader of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, has effectively abandoned his longtime base in Syria and has no plans to return, Hamas sources in Gaza said Friday. "The situation there does not allow the leadership to be present," a Hamas official in Gaza said. "There are no more Hamas leaders in Damascus."
