Controversial Billboards Highlight "Similarities" between the U.S. and Israel
(BayArea.com) Michal Lando - The posters cropping up at East Bay BART stations feature a pretty, sun-tanned girl with an American flag painted on her cheek standing in front of an Israeli flag. The text below says, "Israel and America: Shared values, shared dreams - peace, justice and democracy." The signs are designed to say that Israel and America have more in common than residents might think. Launched by the Oakland-based Jewish Community Federation of the Greater East Bay, the ad campaign aims to raise public awareness of "similarities" between America and Israel. But that message is igniting its own controversy.
