Hamas Opponents Fear Crackdown in Gaza
(Telegraph-UK) Robert Tait - The organizers of Ya Felistini Tamarod (Palestinian, Rebel!), a group set up in Gaza following the overthrow of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, say they are unhappy with the continued division between Hamas in Gaza and Fatah in the West Bank. They want to emulate the Egyptian experience by organizing a petition demanding immediate presidential and parliamentary elections across both territories. The group has drawn fierce scrutiny from Hamas' security services. Its first public demonstration last week - against Israel - was broken up by uniformed Hamas officers. "Even though Hamas is always talking about resistance against Israel, they thought people might use this campaign against them. Their thinking was affected by what's happened in Egypt," said Ouroula Othman, Tamarod's spokesperson.
