Turkey Shoots Down Russian Warplane near Syrian Border

(New York Times) Neil MacFarquhar and Steven Erlanger - Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian warplane that Turkey said had strayed into its airspace on Tuesday. While few expect a military escalation, the incident has soured chances for a diplomatic breakthrough over Syria.
