U.S. Special Forces Raid Al-Qaeda Compound in Yemen, Kill 7 Terrorists
(Long War Journal) Bill Roggio - U.S. special operations forces raided an Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) compound in Marib province in Yemen on Tuesday and killed seven AQAP operatives "through a combination of small arms fire and precision airstrikes." U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said AQAP "has taken advantage of ungoverned spaces in Yemen to plot, direct, and inspire terror attacks against America, its citizens, and allies around the world." The U.S. military has launched more than 80 airstrikes throughout Yemen so far this year. The writer is a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
