British Labour Party Rejects Corbyn's Plan to Declare Israel Racist
(Telegraph-UK) Harry Yorke and Jack Maidment - Jeremy Corbyn has said he does not believe it is anti-Semitic to describe the creation of Israel as racist. The Labour leader called for the party on Tuesday to adopt a personal statement saying: "[It should not be] regarded as anti-Semitic to describe Israel, its policies or the circumstances around its foundation as racist." However, he was overruled by the party's ruling body. Labour insiders said Corbyn's proposal was "completely scrapped" following opposition from members of the national executive committee. Jennifer Gerber, the director of Labour Friends of Israel, said: "It is contemptible but utterly unsurprising that Jeremy Corbyn prioritized and fought for the right of anti-Semites to describe the world's only Jewish state as racist in a meeting supposedly about combating anti-Semitism."
