Israeli Researchers Develop Groundbreaking Leukemia Drug
(Israel Hayom) Ran Reznick - Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have recently developed a breakthrough drug to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML), one of the most aggressive cancers. Professor Yinon Ben-Neriah, who heads the research team, said the new drug "targets many leukemia proteins at once and destroys all of the oncogenes [that have the potential to cause cancer], and activates the tumor suppressor P53 gene." Researchers are trying to expand the drug's use to other cancers, including lymphoma, multiple myeloma, melanoma and colorectal cancer.
