My Recent Trip to Israel
(Stand for America) Amb. Nikki Haley - I've had the privilege of visiting many places throughout the world, but Israel will always hold a special place in my heart. The U.S. and Israel have long shared a close strategic relationship, but the bond between our two nations goes deeper. Both countries were founded by brave leaders who believed in their respective causes despite the odds against them. Both nations have their roots in a shared belief system that celebrates democracy, religious freedom, and the rule of law. As UN Ambassador, I was proud to defend Israel - not just as an ally, but as a friend. One of the proudest moments of my two years as UN Ambassador was the day I vetoed the UN Security Council resolution condemning the U.S. for moving our embassy to Jerusalem. Not only did we stand by our friend and ally Israel, we asserted our fundamental sovereign right to decide where we place our embassy - just like we do in every other country.
