Iran Has the Lowest Birthrate in the Middle East
(Washington Post) Miriam Berger - Iran's birthrate has decreased 25% over the past four years to a fertility rate of 1.7 children per mother, Seyed Hamed Barakati, deputy health minister for family and school population, said in May. On average, a couple had their first child after four years of marriage and a second one five years later. A new law for the "Rejuvenation of the Population and Support of the Family" was enacted by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi last month.
