New IDF Counter-Terror Unit for Gaza Border Towns
(Times of Israel) Emanuel Fabian - The IDF has announced the formation of a new counter-terrorism unit that will operate in Gaza border communities, made up of residents of the area who are ex-special forces. The unit, known as LOTAR Otef - referring to the Gaza envelope - was established Monday, "as part of learning the lessons that have emerged from the initial investigations into the events of October 7," the IDF said. Hundreds of reservists have already applied to serve in LOTAR Otef, and will begin training in the coming weeks.
