Israel and Hizbullah Edge Closer to Ceasefire
(Wall Street Journal) Adam Chamseddine - Israel's Security Cabinet will vote Tuesday on a ceasefire agreement with Hizbullah, Israeli and U.S. officials said. The deal includes a 60-day implementation period to allow the Israeli military to withdraw and for the Lebanese armed forces to secure the border area and prevent Hizbullah from re-establishing a presence there, according to Lebanese officials. Israel has demanded that it preserve the ability to strike should Hizbullah pose new threats in Lebanon even after the signing of a deal. Hizbullah began firing rockets at Israel shortly after the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel. Hizbullah has quietly signaled it was willing to delink its rocket fire to stopping the war in Gaza.
